"I came that they may have life and have it abundantly"

John 10:10

A Message from Pastor Rice About Abundant Life

Jesus shared with His disciples in John 10:10 that He came that we might have LIFE... ABUNDANT LIFE.

In our turbulent times, we may wonder how this is possible... By knowing God (abiding in HIM) and making Him known (connecting with people). Remaining in Him is how we bring every area of our lives under submission of His Lordship.

The Abundant Lifestyle for the believer is best modeled by the 1st Century Church in Acts.

"And the devoted to the apostles' teaching"

Acts 2:42

A Message from Pastor Rice on God's Word

Who or what is directing your life?

Acts 2:42 says "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine..". One of the most reliable ways to connect with God is through His Word."

This is where we learn who He is and what He wants us to do. God’s word is the primary way He talks to us. Spending time in devotion, bible study, and putting it into practice helps us draw close to the Lord. Today, we are blessed to find His Word in different translations and media formats, printed, on-line Bibles, audio; preached and taught in church, small groups, on television and radio. What time will you set aside to read God's Word? Are you just getting started? Two options to make it easier: A. Read one chapter from the book of John each day. John was written so we would believe that Jesus is the Son of God. John 20:31 B. Read one chapter of The Proverbs each day. The Proverbs are filled with wisdom and great insight for daily living

The apostles were prophets who spoke the very word of God. The Lord breathed His words of life through them to give us the Bible.

Why should I read the Bible?

It is our guide to give us direction. We all need help finding our way through life. God's Word is the help we need to live well, live right, and live forever.

Navigating life by guessing, using worldly wisdom sends you straight to the wrong end zone, HELL. Roy "Wrong Way" Riegels was one of the most talented running backs of his time. On January 1, 1929, the Golden Bears faced the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Midway through the 2nd quarter, Riegels, who played center on both offensive and defensive lines and who was then playing in a role similar to that of the modern defensive nose guard or nose tackle, picked up a Fumble by Tech's Jack "Stumpy" Thomason. Just 30 yards away from theYellow Jackets' end zone, Riegels was somehow turned around and ran 69 yards in the wrong direction. Teammate and quarterback Benny Lom chased Riegels, screaming at him to stop. Known for his speed, Lom finally caught up with Riegels at California's 3-yard line and tried to turn him around, but he was immediately hit by a wave of Tech players and tackled back to the 1-yard line.

We have all heard of GPS (global positioning system), but what is most important is a God Positioning System. God speaks to us primarily through His Word. The Lord sits high above the earth and knows more than the satellites that guide your car. He gives us directions and guidance on how to navigate this life through HIs Word. He is asking us to listen, trust, and do. Acts 2:42 And they continued steadfastly

in the apostles' doctrine...

Psalms 1 : 1 - 6

1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers

2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Read Psalms 1

Acts 2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine...

What is the main theme of Psalm 1? What does it mean to be blessed? What are the benefits of trusting the word of God to direct your life?

Prayer: Lord, you see from the beginning to the end. I trust You as my Saviour, my leader, my Lord. Help me draw closer to you by spending more time in Your Word. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Read one chapter from the book of John each day. John was written so we would believe that Jesus is the Son of God. John 20:31

Read one chapter of The Proverbs each day. The Proverbs are filled with wisdom and great insight for daily living. What time will you set aside to read God's Word?

"Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles." Acts 2:43

"Praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people."  Acts 2:47

A Message from Pastor Rice on Worship

Acts 2:47 ... praising God and having favor with all the people.

Worship is more than a Sunday morning experience. We sing songs that proclaim the worth of God. Worship is also revealed in our obedience and our response to God's commands. It is a lifestyle. Biblical worship fuels our proper response to connecting with people... fellowship, giving, service, outreach. Are you still so excited about the Gospel of Jesus Christ that it overflows in every area of your life? Have you learned to worship in spirit and in truth?

As you mature in Christ, do not be surprised that worship in spirit and truth involves the other 7 Essentials. Worship includes singing, praying, giving, and exhortation from the Word of God. We worship in truth by reading the Word, rendering praise and thanksgiving in alignment with His Word, and living in obedience. You can start right where you are. Attend corporate service weekly. Consecrate a special time of day to read the Bible, pray, and sing unto the Lord. Journaling is one way to remain focused and even document your growth

"With one accord, they continued to meet daily in the temple courts"

Acts 2:46

A Message from Pastor Rice on Prayer

Acts 2:42... And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

A close relationship with God is cultivated by spending time in conversation with Him, talking and listening. Through prayer, we express our dependence on Him. Our Heavenly Father not only allows us to talk to Him, he wants us to talk to Him about everything that concerns us. What a privilege to have a Father who wants to hear about our life and has the ability to make it better! Philippians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." How will you make prayer a priority each day? You can begin with The Prayer Sandwich. Say a prayer when you wake up, again at lunch time, and before you go to sleep. The beauty of prayer is the more you talk to God, the more you rely on Him to order your steps.

"With one accord, they continued to meet daily in the temple courts"

Acts 2:46

A Message from Pastor Rice on Fellowship

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 A sense of awe came over everyone, and the apostles performed many wonders and signs. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they shared with anyone who was in need. 46 With one accord they continued to meet daily in the temple courts and to break bread from house to house, sharing their meals with gladness and sincerity of heart,   Acts 2 42

Fellowship is mentioned several times in the Acts passage. The early Christians understood an effective Christian life is done best in community. Being around other like-minded Christians encourages us, affirms the gifts of believers, and provides supportive accountability. Even before the Upper Room experience, Jesus himself modeled the way. He lived in community with 12 men who were able to bear witness to His ministry.

Are you doing life in community with other believers? Care Communities and Growth Groups are two effective ways to connect with your NEBC family, discover your gifts, and be encouraged in your daily living. Not connected?

Acts 2:46

A Message from Pastor Rice on Service

Acts 2:43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders.

Serving in the church allows us to do our part to take care of the needs of our other sisters and brothers in Christ. We all benefit from the programs of the church and we also discover and grow in our gifts through service. The purpose of our life is to bear much fruit and the purpose of our fruit is to nourish and be enjoyed by one another. Developing a lifestyle of worship will not allow you to comfortably withhold what God has placed in you for His glory. Ultimately, it would be sad to rob yourself of the eternal rewards that come from serving. Are you involved in ministry? Are you pointing members of your family to Christ? Your own lifestyle of worship is an invitation to others to want to know more about Jesus.

Acts 2:46

A Message from Pastor Rice on Outreach

Acts 2:46-47  They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity — all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

Jesus clearly tells us in Acts 1:8 that we will be his witnesses. When the believers met in the Jewish temple, they would tell the Jews about Christ and many would believe and become Christians. It is a wonderful feeling to share Christ with someone who believes and is accepted into the family of God. Our response to the Gospel takes us beyond the walls of the sanctuary. We come together corporately to be equipped for outreach, helping others who have not believed, the unchurched, and underserved communities. The signs and wonders that the Apostles did were usually healing and helping those unable to help themselves.

Matthew 25:40 says if you do this to the least of these, you do it unto me. Outreach is another one of the 7 Essential with great eternal rewards. We are saved to serve. Sharing the Gospel to remove as many people as possible from the hell line to the heaven line as possible. Sometimes a person responds quickly to the Gospel message or you may be the one that plants the seed and someone else waters.

Acts 2:46

A Message from Pastor Rice on Giving

Acts 2:45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.

There are at least four great reasons to give. First, we give as an act of worship to a gracious God who gave us everything. Second, giving allows the church to continue to minister to the spiritual needs of the body. Third, giving helps the church minister to the spiritual needs of others. Lastly, Jesus teaches in Luke 7:38 that whatever measure we give will be given to us. Is giving a part of your worship? The full tithe is 10%. If you do not currently tithe, pray for growth in this area and begin giving. Start giving and grow to 10%. If you are a tither, ask God to guide you in adding an offering to your tithe. The link below is one of many resources to guide you in prioritizing giving: -way Prayer (one of the 7 Essentials connecting you to the person of God) and submission to the leading of the Holy Spirit will help you mature in your giving.
